I receive a blue screen or crash when running a firmware update on my World of Warcraft Cataclysm or Legendary mouse.
NOTE: If you do not have Kaspersky Anti-Virus and your mouse is still causing a blue screen on firmware upgrade, please contact support.
We've identified the issue to be related to Kaspersky anti-virus software. Unfortunately the only solution at this time is to fully remove Kaspersky prior to installation of your World of Warcraft Cataclysm or Legendary mouse, and the subsequent firmware upgrade. The issue is related to a driver that is installed by Kaspersky and it affects a number of devices other than our World of Warcraft MMO Gaming mice that must run a firmware upgrade.
Please take the following steps:
1) Make sure any World of Warcraft mouse software is uninstalled.
2) Fully uninstall Kaspersky anti-virus. You can do this through control panel -> programs & features -> select Kaspersky and uninstall
3) Plug in your World of Warcraft mouse if it is not already
4) Download the latest World of Warcraft (Cataclysm or Legendary) from Http://www.steelseries.com/download
5) Install the software and allow the firmware update to run
6) Once complete, you can once again re-install Kaspersky anti-virus.
Keep in mind that if a new version of the World of Warcraft Cataclysm or Legendary mouse software is released, it may ask for an update to a new firmware version. If this is the case, you will need to repeat the process of uninstalling Kaspersky.
